Migrate a number▾

Migrate a number

Bring a live WhatsApp number onto Sendport from another provider, or take one away.

Migration moves a registered number between WhatsApp Business Accounts. The number, its display name and its quality rating carry over. Message history does not — it stays with whoever held the number. Export anything you need before you start.

Bringing a number in

  1. 1

    Export your history

    History does not migrate. Pull it from your current provider first — there is no way back once the number is deregistered.

  2. 2

    Release the number

    In your current provider's console, request migration for the number. That deregisters it and surfaces its two-step verification PIN. If nobody knows the PIN, reset it there before continuing.

  3. 3

    Start the migration

    Dashboard → Channels → Migrate a number, or over the API. You supply the number and the 6-digit PIN.

    cURL
    curl -X POST https://api.sendport.tech/v1/numbers/migrations \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer $SENDPORT_KEY" \
      -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
      -d '{
        "phone_number": "+201005550123",
        "verification_pin": "482915"
      }'
  4. 4

    Confirm

    Registration usually completes in under a minute. The channel appears in list phone numbers with status: CONNECTED and its original quality rating.

    Re-create your templates

    Templates belong to a WhatsApp Business Account and do not migrate. Re-submit them with create a template and expect a fresh review — usually minutes.

Expect a short outage

Between deregistration and re-registration the number can neither send nor receive. It is usually under a minute, but schedule it outside business hours and pause any running broadcast first.

Taking a number away

The same operation in reverse, and we do not make it hard. Dashboard → Channels → a channel → Release for migration returns the two-step PIN and deregisters the number. No ticket, no retention call.

Export your history first with fetch message history. After release we keep it for 30 days so you can still pull it, then delete it.

Migrate the quiet number first

If you hold several numbers, move the lowest-volume one first. You learn the timing and the template re-review pace on a number nobody notices being down for forty seconds.
